Justice for people AND animals prevails, in this classic horse story for kids!
This is the story of a horse that was once the loyal companion of a great knight who rode him into battle. But now that the horse is old, will he be discarded and neglected as useless? Or will the king bring justice to the horse and the town?
This story is based on a Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem and was retold by Lillian Gasket as a childrens' tale in 1910. Annotations and illustrations are added. This story compliments my story "A Horse Named Battle," which is a modern adaptation of "The Bell of Atri." Parents and children are encouraged to read the Longfellow version, the Gasket version and my version to discuss differences, similarities, overall themes, and how a story gets passed down from generation to generation. Please see my Author Page for the other versions, and happy reading!
